Hospitality design
Within the ID class, we have participated in the Philips Creative Challenge. Blocked in exploration by their marketing division, people from Philips design asked us to think creatively about the theme of hospitality. We have selected the context of the Citizen M hotel chain. The unique hotel offers their guests small rooms for low prices, equipped with high-end Philips technology. To compensate for the limited space in the rooms, a series of luxurious living rooms is located in the hotel lobby. Our concept, ‘DoorM’ focuses on enhancing the community of hotel guests by inviting them downstairs in a non obtrusive and functional way. Several spy-holes in the door offer a distorted image of what is happening in the living rooms. When guests select a room ambiance on their Philips remote (which is already equipped in the rooms), a ring of light around a spy hole can suggest a living room that matches the selected ambiance best. When a guest for example selects a formal quiet ambiance, a matching living room is suggested.

We have built a high quality prototype with an integrated LCD monitor, led rings, sensors and a speaker system to demonstrate our concept.
